Frequently Asked Questions

Expand All:
What is Curry Starter, and where can I find it?

Curry Starter is a pre-made Indian base created and produced by Usha's Kitchen that simplifies the cooking process by cutting out tedious chopping and grating of ingredients. You can find it online at ushaskitchen.com

Can I use fresh tomatoes instead of crushed or diced canned tomatoes?

Yes, you can use fresh tomatoes, but you'll need to cook them down longer to achieve the right consistency. Using canned tomatoes speeds up the process and adds a richer flavor.

How do I temper the cream before adding it to the sauce?

To temper the cream, warm it gently in a separate pan before adding it to the sauce or simply temper the cream by adding a couple of Tbsp of the hot sauce to the cream in a separate bowl before adding the cream back to the sauce.  This helps prevent curdling when mixing it into the hot sauce.

Can I make the sauce spicier?

Yes, to increase the spice level, you can add extra chili powder or fresh green chilies while cooking the sauce.

How long can I store this sauce?

The sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. For longer storage, freeze it for up to 2 months.

Can I use this sauce with other proteins or vegetables?

Absolutely! This sauce works well with chicken, paneer, tofu, or vegetables like cauliflower and potatoes.

Do I need to add butter to the sauce?

Adding butter is optional, but it gives the sauce a richer flavor and a silky texture. You can skip it as adding butter to finish a dish is completely optional.

What can I serve with this Tikka Masala Sauce?

This sauce pairs perfectly with steamed rice, naan, paratha, or roti. It’s also great with quinoa or cauliflower rice for a low-carb option.

What if I don’t have Curry Starter?

While Curry Starter saves time, you can substitute it by making a traditional Indian base using sautéed onions, grated garlic, grated ginger, and a mix of spices such as cumin, coriander, and garam masala.
