Note

Repeat this recipe using 1 bell pepper and 1 small red onion if you want vegetables with your paneer.

Alternatively you can skewer these paneer  and the vegetables after you soak the paneer, and sprinkle them with Tikka Masala Powder. Don't forget to soak your wooden skewers so they don't burn. Spray or drizzle a little olive oil on them and grill for 6 minutes turning frequently.

These skewers can be baked as well in an oven on hi broil for 6-8 minutes turning mid way.

FAQs

Expand All:
What is Paneer Tikka?

Paneer Tikka is a popular Indian appetizer made from paneer (Indian cottage cheese) marinated in spices and grilled or pan-fried until crispy. It's often served with a side of chutney and garnished with cilantro.

Should I pre-soak the paneer in water?

Soak the paneer in hot water for about 10 minutes. This helps to make the paneer soft and ensures that it absorbs the flavors of the marinade better.

Can I bake or grill the paneer instead of pan-frying it?

Yes, you can bake the paneer on a baking sheet at a high temperature (around 400°F or 200°C) for about 15-20 minutes, turning halfway through. For grilling, skewer the paneer and cook on a preheated grill for about 6-8 minutes, turning frequently.

Can I use a different type of cheese?

Paneer is the traditional choice for this recipe, but you can substitute it with firm tofu if you prefer a vegan option.

Why does my Paneer Tikka taste dry?

Make sure not to overcook the paneer and do not cook it on too high heat.  It should be golden brown and slightly crispy on the outside while remaining soft and moist inside. Soaking the paneer before cooking helps maintain its moisture.
